What really matters in life?

So, life. What matters in it?

Some common things that seem to matter: -Missing your favourite TV show -Having a bad hair day -Sex -The new Justin Timberlake song -Being anorexic.

So, these things seem to matter to us. I see hundreds of girls a day ask ‘am I fat’ or ‘how can I be anorexic’ etcetera, etcetera. Yes, I am being totally hypocritical saying this because, I too, am in the ‘weight loss’ state, and even though I tell all of these girls to stop worrying, I still have the same thing happening, and no matter what I say, it doesn’t get off my mind. We see girls asking ‘am I pretty?’ we see them wanting to have sex, we see people killed over tiny incidents, we see people doing stupid things to hurt themselves, purposly. We loose people to suicide every day, because they are unhappy with the life they lead. But all asides; What matters? What is life all about?

It shouldn’t matter, what you look like It shouldn’t matter, where you come from It shouldn’t matter, what you have It shouldn’t matter, what your hobbies or favourite things are.

We’re all in this together, and we really should be caring about the big picture. I mean, honestly. We should be happy, we should be able to eat without feeling guilty, we should be able to do what we want, we should be granted freedom. And look in the mirror happily. We shouldn’t get grumpy from missing a fictional character on TV.

But to you, what matters?

Okay so yeah, looks can sometimes matter. It does feel extra nice to look good on prom, or for your hair to go right when you go out with your friends, but do we really need to waste our time on this? I mean look outside! Look at all of the magnificent things we have invented. CARS! We can get from place to place, without worrying. OVENS! MICROWAVES! We can heat up out foods. Look at what I’m doing now, Im on a laptop, waves are being sent through space and to the very place I am sitting, and as I press a button it translates into the computer. It’s amazing!

When we think of this, do those tiny things really matter?

(Sorry, im in one of those moods, the big mood, where I feel like pointing something important out. Sorry)

What’s important to me is my friends and family.. most importantly of those are my parents and my boyfriend Austin. I just want to live a good life, in the end have no regrets. I just really want to have a few things… to get married to a perfect guy ( not everyone elses ‘perfect’ my perfect ) have at least one girl and one boy. I what to watch them grow up happy with their lives and I want to die peacfully in my sleep at the same time as the person I love.. even know I know that’s vary slim… I dont want to die alone.. and I dont want to make anyone sad when I’m gone and I dont want to go through life without my true love. The only thing that would keep me going after they died would be knowing I’d seen them again in the afterlife.

You know Belindaleigh, you’re absolutely right. Things that shouldn’t matter at all, seem to matter. Like we worry about what we wear - should I wear my green shirt or my red one - when all that’s really important is that I’m wearing something that’s warm enough and isn’t going to be uncomfortable. Somewhere along the way, a lot of us have lost perspective and no longer really see what is most important in life.

It’s a bit of a sad state of affairs when a kid in Africa for instance thinks that the most important thing in life is food and water, while a kid in America thinks the most important thing in life is finding out Miley Cyrus’ phone number.
