What meaning does a Bar/Bat Mitzvah hold?

I’ve been to a couple Bar and Bat Mitzvah’s. I know it celebrates a person’s entry into adulthood at the age of 13, right? But what if an adult converts to Judaism? Do they have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah? Is there anything that someone with a Bar/Bat Mitzvah can do that someone who isn’t Bar/Bat Mitzvahed can’t do?

Hi,

Once a person reaches 13, he/she is Bar/Bat Mitzvahed, regardless of whether they have a ceremony.

Not having the ceremony hasn’t any negative impact on your ability to enjoy the Worship Service and it will not hinder your ability to have any position in the non clerical organization of the Shul.

Yeah it means you are an adult now, for boys 13 and girls 12 except for Reforms which is a sect of Judaism. The reason why girls have their Bat Mitzvah a year before is because girls mature faster than boys and at age of 12 a girl is ready to come part of the adult world..(in our religion) that means that now she or he has to obey the Mitzvot.. doesn’t mean they have to stop going to school, get a job and move out of the house because they still children just that now they know whats good and whats bad.

Now when a person converts to Judaism yes they have their Bar/Bat Mitzvah even if they are 40!!..they go throw a Bar/Bat Mitzvah//Brit Milah. For the man he has to get circumcised. Normally in Judaism this is done when the baby is 8 days old. Then they choose their Hebrew name..thats why I say its kind of like a Brit MIlah because these are the kinds of things happens at a Brit Milah and slash Bar/Bat Mitzvah because they are obviously old enough to start obeying the laws of G-d. SO yeah they have their own Bar/Bat Mitzvah party.
