What learning more than 2 languages does to your brain?

I am fluent in English, and I am currently learning how to speak/write Vietnamese (my home language and being taught by my parents), and Japanese (not much purpose for wanting to learn them but I want to anyways). I am planning to learn Spanish (because Spanish is the second most spoken language in the US and can be important in everyday things, too). I am currently taking Japanese in high school as a sophomore, and I am planning to take Spanish next year in high school.

Is it possible that learning three or more different languages at the same time can slow down your brain? Does the brain actually have its limit to keep its memory? But most of all, what does it do to my brain if I am learning many different languages at the same time? Does it get strengthened?

I don’t know if our brain has its limit but I can say that I’m doing the same. Spanish, Italian, French at the same time… Well, I don’t really think it is bad because I’m going so well. Maybe because they are similar languages that’s why my mind doesn’t get confused :)

I only can advice you to start Spanish when you end up the languages you are learning now. Good luck ;)

I will agree with everyone. I will say though you should look up a guy named Kim Peek. A famous savant. The kind of savant he is is a megasavant. He known as ‘Rain Man’. He has been able to store so much information that it is seemably impossible to regular people. Another savant to look up would be Daniel Tammet. Another megasavant. he was able to learn a very difficult language in 7 days. He is able to do massive calculations in a few seconds. so the brain isnt necessarily limited to learning. Push yourself to learn as much as you possibly can and then some.

It doesn’t have a negative impact on your brain at all. Learning a new language can actually improve your memory and also basic understanding of concepts. But then again it depends from person to person.

Most of the people in my country speak AT LEAST 2 languages, a lot of my friends speak much as 7 languages. Your brain doesn’t have a limit to the amount of information it can take it.
