What kind of snake is this?

I live in Missouri, and my dad said he was in the front yard and found a snake. He tried to shew it away and it bit him. He said he got a pretty good look at it. He said it was about 2 feet long and as thick as his thumb. It was black on top with yellow-green spots. Well, he said they were more specks. He said its belly was yellow, almost orange. It had big eyes. It had a skinny tail, and no fangs, but sharp teeth. He said it wiggled its tail like a rattle snake, but it didn’t make noise. Does anyone know what I’m talking about?
