What is parvo that kills puppies?

I miss my chihuahua puppy mika who died last night of parvo. This is my first pet and I don’t know what parvo is but shes gone and I miss her so much. I’m so depressed.

It’s a disease only puppies can get, or at least they’re the most likely to get it. My black lab puppy, Macy, got it and she died too. =[ It’s really sad I cried forever, but all I know is don’t get another puppy soon after! It could spread to them and do the same thing… parvo stays in the ground and its kinda hard ot get rid of, if you are planning on getting annother puppy any time soon or anytime in fact, call the local vet and tell them your story and ask how to clean around the house and outside and what not because if you plan on getting another dog and dont want the same thing to happen. Also, I think there is some kind of shot or vaccination that you can get to your pup so that it helps prevent it or something like that, you could ask that too. (if you are getting another puppy) Here, this website tells you what it is and the symptoms, treatment, how its spread, diagnosis, immunity and vaccination, and the conclusion. It’ll help you understand better hopefully.

Hope I helped, and I’m really sorry for your loss, it’s really hard to lose a pet like this.

my two border collie puppys had parvo (it ended up costing £1000GBP in vet bill - no insurance!)

I don’t really know a lot about it, becuase they got it from their mother. all I know is that I didn’t take them out, let them walk around on the ground or anything like that. within 12 hours of getting them, I was done the vet with them.

first sysmptoms I know are like pup being lathargic (which puppies arn’t meant to be) , the whites of their eyes go a bluey tint and the gums go whitish.

tey require immedicate and costly vet care…I wouldn’t have known about it unless I hadn’t rung the border collie rescue place to get advice about raising border collies (they tend to be qute energetic!! lol) and the lady said it wasn’t normal, and if they deteriorate then vets - so 12am, I was at the vets<:O(

it’s a bacterial infection I think, deadly to puppys, the mortality rate is very very low with puppies, the younger they are, the less chance of survival, and I think it’s qute rapid.

I know I didn’t do anything, but still looked nice.

they were in the vets (both of them) for 5 days and nights bless em’, but they did survivce, at a very high cost though :O(..but the male is in scrufts now! so there is hope for doggys with it… sorry for your loss, a lost pet is so underated.

Parvo is a virus spread dog to dog, and is extremely contageous…deadly. It is ALSO extremely preventable…If the mama dog had her shots, she passes the immunity in her milk to the pups…then the pups get their shots…

I’m very sorry you lost your puppy…If you think about getting another, you MUST clean every where your puppy was, with bleach…The virus can live in the ground up to 6 months…so anywhere your puppy pooped must be off limits.

Don’t skimp on puppy shots…

I’m so, so, so sorry this happened. :(

My Mom lost her dog to (I think it was) Distemper - either that or Parvo. It was REALLY hard on her, too.

I just wanted to put my 2cents in - that I’m so sorry for you… I recently got two new puppies a few weeks ago (ironically, Chihuahuas)… they’re in that 3 month age where you practically take them to the vet almost every week for booster shots. I think their last round is on July 30th - I’m thinking it’s booster shots for Parvo/Distemper…

Hugs to you.
