What happens to the sperm when a guy gets a vasectomy?

I think it’s almost funny that I know the answer to this ‘cause I looked it up myself awhile back.

I hope that the moderators will think this question and answer are okay for funadvice.com. I am going to try to keep my answer as “scientific” as possible.

What a vasectomy doctor does is clip and tie off the tubes by which sperm cells move from the testes and into the penis. So, you have sex after a vasectomy, your body still produces semen and the spem content is so small you really don’t notice the difference.

The funny thing is, the body keep producing sperm even after a vasectomy. It’s not like a supply of eggs in a woman, which are a defnite amount. New sperm is made by the testes constantly. After a vasectomy the sperm just has nowhere to go so it gets absorbed, like other fluids, back into the body. So, no, you don’t have to go back to the doctor to get the sperm cells removed. The only way to stop sperm cell production is to cut off the testes, which is castration, a completely different thing.

After awhile the body identifies the sperm as being kind of an invader, so it develops what they call “antisperm antibodies”. This kills the sperm. This is the main reason why many guys still can’t make babies after they have a vasectomy reversal operation. The sperm produced are dead on arrival, basically.
