What happens to adoptive parents if they neglect the child?

This has nothing to do with me or people I know. It’s for a movie I’m making with friends. So these older people say in their 50’s adopt a kid who is about 11 years old. This kid is an orphan and is a bit weird and anti-social so nobody wanted to adopt him before. The older couple take him in, but mostly he goes out to their old barn and reads by himself. Over the years they forget about him as he starts staying out there. At some point social services finds out about this. What would they do with the kid and the adoptive parents, especially if the parents have alzheimer’s ?

Answer #1

The child would be put into foster care, and the parents would have it on there recorder that they neglect children

Answer #2

Take him away.

Why? Because the perents have no condition of taking care of them, and the child needs a good, and well home to live in.

Answer #3

It would have the same consequences if the parents were his biological parents. He would be taken away into foster care.
