Should I ignore a family member who doesn't like my boyfriend?

my boyfriend’s name is jacklon and he is 15 years old. he is colored. someone in my family has a really big problem with this. do you think that I should ignore the person or break up with my boyfriend?

Well, you don’t necessarily have to ignore your family member, but you can shut them out whenever the topic of your relationship arises. Some people who still have issues with racism cannot be changed. Just do whatever make you happiest and if your family realizes he makes you happy, they will learn to accept you happiness, colored boyfriend or not.

…he’s ‘colored’?? I didn’t realize this was 1958. So…

What you’re saying is, you have a family member, who’s a racist. Well, that’s not YOUR problem. You don’t need to end a relationship, just because your father/mother/brother/sister is a dumbass…

im sorry if this is the same thing everyone else said but im not reading their comments, too tired lol dont ignore the family member, explain to them that he makes you happy and until that changes you will not budge in your relation with him, and if they have a problem with it then too bad because theres no need to disapprove of someone for their color, unless he did something to cause this disapproval.

I have sort of the same problem but it’s not concerning colour and it’s a very close family member, one i cannot just shut out of my life. I think that if your bf males you happy then don’t worry about what anyone else thinks or says. And as far as your family member is concerned… don’t speak about your bf to this person, find other common ground and if he or she bad mouths your bf then just say, “Jacklon makes me happy, and because i’m happy you should be happy and supportive of me. I’m sick of narrow minded people who doesn’t realize that it’s the new South Africa already. You happy with your spouse, let me be happy with mine.” You can tone this quote down a bit to be respectful if it’s an older family member. Hope this helps. And hey, i think i just solved my own problem. Thanx. :-)

Every one should be treated equal and it dosent matter what color they are . have you tried talking to this family member about this problem >? if you have then . ignoring him might be the best thing . as ‘’capttainassassin” said no need to end the relationship just cause one person cant except this . xShwow

I am going through a situation where I have to pretend I am broken up with my boyfriend so my family will get off my back. I am 21 years old, my parents are racists and my sister is jealous and never wants me to be happy. My boyfriend is from Poland and is clearly white, even though my parents call him black. He’s a great influence on me and he makes me very happy, even though its tough right now and we have to sneak around to be together, it’s totally worth it in the end!
