Do I have a virus?

Ok. This started last night, when I went to log on to my moms administrative account ( I have one too, but heres seems to run faster, and is the main admin account.) which is what I always log on to, and something different happened. Something called windows guardian (my mom says its called windows vista guardian, and that she had bought it directly from an h.p. Website, but I don’t know that she did.) popped up. It was a screen that had a bunch of option, such as scan my computer. Well, in the background, it was all blue screen. I did the scan thing and then closed it. Nothing. Just blue screen. Solid blue screen, and the only way we can get off her acc. Is by using the ctrl+alt+delete combo, or pressing down the off button on the computer manually. Now, when ever we log on to her account, that blue screen is there, but no windows guardian thing pops up, and to top it all off, my mom just told me that apparently, yesterday, something popped up saying we had a trojan… So great, now I think we have a trojan, and she has a blue screen. But its not on any other user account (the blue screen) except hers, the main admin. And I can’t do a system restore, because our computer says that it cannot preform the system restore. So, does anyone know what we can do? Oh, one more thing, when I log on to her account, it takes like 3 minutes to load, and when I hit log off, via ctrl alt delete combo, for a split second it shows the startup menu icon, and her desktop picture, and thats it.

the vista guardian virus is a known virus..

use AVG: http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage

or if your feeling really lucky—

malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org

Answer #2

Having more than one profile on your computer does NOT slow down your system. It does not make a copy of anything, merely changes the options of what is available to whom. Honestly…

malwarebytes is usually pretty excellent at rooting out problems. I would also recommend Hijack This – also freeware – which found a few redirect viruses for me when malwarebytes could not. Be sure to run in safe mode, and disconnect your machine from the Net before you scan.

Answer #3

Change the administrater to your profile, then delete hers, and its best if you don’t make another one. having more than one profile slows the computer down because all it does is copy every thats on her account and add its to yours. SO If I was you, thats what I would do, because that same thing has happend to me.

Try starting up in safe mode. Install a program called “Malwarebytes Antimalware” and do a scan. To bring up safe mode, keep hitting f8 while your computer starts up.
