My dad used to have a joint account with me and when I stopped getting money in that account he said he would close it. 5 years later I found out he did not close the account and now it is a delinquent account and I have a bad credit score now. What should I do?
tell your pops to fix it! try and pay it off yourself I don't know how much you like your dad but if you don't care if his feeling get crushed, you can consult a lawyer. you deffinately want good credit in the future in case you want to buy a house or a car or get a loan. Also you need good or no credit if you ever want to step foot on a military base I have no idea why but I'm sure some one in the military might have a solution since a lot of people that join have to bring up there credit before taking a test.
If you know your dad won't pay the account, you need to go ahead and pay for it yourself. Keep accurate records of all the payments that you make and then sue your father for the money (if you want to go that route). Right now, getting your credit back in good shape should be a top priority. Talk to the bank about the payoff options that you have and see if they will work with you based on the situation.
Don't not pay someone to do it for you because it is really easy to do yourself
