What are the Symptoms of OCD?

I think I have OCD

Answer #1

I have OCD. Mine is with numbers and colors mainly. I wash my hands 2 times everyu 30 minutes or so. If I step on a crack with my left foot, I have to go back and do it with my right foot. I count my steps, food such as cereal, cars, pretty much everything. When I use the microwave, the last digit cannot be a 5 or a 0. Everything has to be color coordinated. My room looks like it belongs in a magazine because it’s so stinkin organized. lol. It’s all about control. You can make yourself stop, but I just can’t! If I break the rules, I feel like I walked around the mall with no pants on. =D

Answer #2

Some people wash their hands continuously, some people have been known to walk in certain patters (example: a tile floor—2 steps forward in 2 different tiles then 2 or 3 steps back to hit the tiles not touched when moving forward), doing things a certain amt of times (roaming the room at bedtime and touching certain things say 6 times each before they can go to bed). Whatever the distinction of the particular patient, the point is that it disturbs their life greatly. Its hard to go out to eat when you have to take your coat off and on 7 times before you can sit down (or anywhere for that matter) This disorder greatly impacts their lives and the people around them. See your physician if you feel you may have some OCD behaviors and he/she can refer to a professional who deals with OCD. Good luck!! {=

Answer #3

I’m pretty much the same way .moe214. except the microwave thing, it has to end in a 0. no fives or any other number. I used to have it really bad, (the counting steps thing) but it’s not that bad anymore. now it’s mainly colours and touching everything on the isles at the store. >_<

Answer #4

Yeah!! And if I’m at the store, and a box or can or whatever is turned the wrong way, I have to fix it. I have problems lol.

Answer #5

Basically obsessions (unwanted thoughts that keep intruding), and then compulsions (behaviors done to get rid of the thoughts). So like examples given, I have the hand washing thing… I wash my hands atleast 30-40 times a day (behavior) because it seems like everything is dirty (obsession) (oh I wish I was exagerating). Could you tell us why you think you have OCD?

Answer #6

OCD is a psychological disorder. People with OCD usually have obsessions that they cannot get over and sometimes, compulsions and checking behavior. For example, a person will have an obsession that they forgot to lock the front door and it won’t go away until they go and check the front door. However, it doesn’t stop there, the person checks again and again. Usually anxiety and depression are also present. I am not a physician, but I have OCD myself.
