westies

hi I wormed my westie 2 days ago but she has got blood in her poo should I be worried?

Yes, I’d be a little worried. Is her poo runny too? How old is she? It could mean that the dying worms gave her some infection…or that she had some that bit the walls of her intestines like hookworms. Diarrhea is dangerous…so would need to be stopped with puppy kaopectate. Give her yogurt too…to help. And I’d worm her with mild wormer like fenbendazol ( Panacure or Safeguard Brand ) for about 5 days in a row, and then I’d repete it every month for a few months , just in case she has worm eggs or there are worm eggs in the yard and she gets re-infected. If the blood continues, or there is diarrhea you can’t stop quickly,…or if she’s under 1 year old, I’d take a stool sample and your Westie to the vet. You might be feeding a dog food with the wrong grains, like corn, white rice, or wheat…so switch to “Life’s Abundance” it’s the best in the USA. View the video on that site about the bad stuff that’s not supposed to be in our dog or cat food, but is.

Ya know what…I’d take a stool sample into the Vet tomorrow, in a tupperware container (pick it up immediately after she poops, and put it in the refer till you can take it in)…Did you get the original wormer from the Vet…or is it an over the counter type?? You can’t just worm her with Panacur, without the dosage being handed to you by a Vet…to make sure it’s right. And you want to make sure she has worms in the first place…

You don’t say how old she is…if she’s a pup, make doubly sure that she’s ok with her vaccinations, etc…Don’t use OTC wormers!! Always get them from the Vet!

All above and Plus depending on the age of the dogs and if Vaccines were given this could be signs of Parvo. It is possiable you gave them to much dewomer at once and killed to many worms at the same time, When we deworm at the hospital we give Panacure and it is give once a day for 3 days, skip two weeks then repeat. It really could be from Hooks or somthing worse so my best advice would be to take her to a vet.
