we dont have a heat lamp for the chicks

we just got baby chicks on monday and now its raining like hello and its cold outside we dont have a heat lamp for the chicks what should I do?

Answer #1

Use a high wattage light bulb…that will help…don’t use an electric blanket, they’ll be pecking at it, and it’s to close of contact…you can tell if they’re too cold, they’ll be huddling closer than they regularly do…if they’re too hot, they actually pant…wrap a blanket around the sides of the cage, hang the light bulb above…move it up or down depending on how cold or warm the chicks appear to be.

Do you have a space heater? You could put them in the bathtub so they couldn’t go anywhere and turn on the space heater so they stay warm.. That way only your bathroom is hot.
