Walking my dog

Hi I was just wondering is it to soon to bring my golden labrador pup for a walk he is 10 weeks and I’ve been bringing him for about two weeks now every couple on nights, it went grand at first but the last few times it is getting harder and harder he just wont come or we get going and about five minutes into the walk he will stop and sit and may or may not get up and go again I once hade to carry him back as he wouldnt go for me what should I do? Should I wait another while?

At 10 weeks he’s just beginning to see himself as an independent enity. Little pups will follow you everywhere. Also, at this age they go thru short “fear period”…that too, maybe why he stops and doesn’t want go further. Dogs go thru several “fear periods” during the first year of life. Just encourage him to move a little further…then walk back, but go past your home…in the other direction…building his confidence. Always PRAISE when he does good…even if it’s a measly 2 feet.

Once he is vaccinated you need to start taking him out as soon as possible,, get him so socialise with other dogs and make sure you take him to the park and let him off his lead, but also whenever you go to the park make sure you take some treats and spend a bit of time doing some training with him!!

Nope, just continue walking him. Our alsation was EXTREMELY stubborn when we started waking him (also around 10 weeks). If he doesn’t want to walk, don’t carry him, pull him. (It’s tough and he won’t like it,but eventually he’ll love it.)
