Urban legends are stories that have a psychological hook that makes it sound true or at least gets listeners to want to believe it is true. Occasionally they are true or at least partially true but usually they are the result of an over active imagination and the stories take on a life of their own. One common feature is that you can never get to the source of the story. It usually comes from a friend of a friend. Occasionally the story gets picked up and reported by legitimate news media who takes the story for true. Urban legends are fascinating. In the age of the internet such stories can propagate faster than ever before.
