Ugggh doctors and nurses make me sooo mad!

Okay, let me attempt to make a long story short…im pregnant and went to the doctor, blah blah blah, they ran some tests and all I want are the freakin results and I know they have to have them by now…seeing how the lab at our hospital is 24 hours and I took it in 5 days ago!!! Then, on top of that, the nurse gave me some uneducated answers and basically freaked me out to the point that I was a mess for about 3 days, I’m 21 years old and expecting my husband and I’s first child, she really should be careful with what she says. The stress that she caused me by telling me that I might very well have kidney failure could have caused more damage to us then the damn thing they were checking on in the first place. Should I tell my doctor about her nurse and how she upset me by giving me information that she shouldn’t have?

It depends. Let me tell you what I am hearing and see if its what you are saying… You are pregnant and went to your OB for some testing—was it your reg scheduled exam/testing or was it another OB, the ER, etc. ? What were they testing for if it wasn’t reg prenatal testing? (Not being nosey, but kinda may need to know to answer) so, you submitted samples (urine, blood, whatever) 5 days ago and the nurse you spoke with said the results weren’t in yet? Well..a lot of times even if the lab is open 24 hrs AND in the hospital the lab is handling all of the patients who are admitted, all of the ER, all of the outpatient lab work (like what you did if you saw an OB and had lab work as part of an appt). We’re talking hundreds of patients, depending on the size of the lab and the hospital. It can take up to a week or even longer for outpatient labs because admits and ER are higher priority UNLESS it was a lab testing for something other than what is normally tested for prenatally. From what I’m hearing you say–this sounds like the case for yours. BUT…I’m sure you know that some types of specimens need to be cultured and grown with readings at 24 and 48 hrs. This could potentially be the case but I don’t know what you were being tested for. next, you say the nurse gave u “uneducated answers”. I need you to be as specific as possible as to what you asked her–was it the test results, what happens if it is pos/neg, worse case scenario? AND I need to know what she told you as well–did she give you the answers to the questions in a brusque manner, no compassion or sensativity because she was extremely busy? Why do you think they were “uneducated” answers? I’m thinking w/ some of the things you are mentioning near the end of your question is you were maybe being tested for a UTI–the answers:kidney failure, not drinking enough water, etc. Lead me to that thought. But..could definitely be something different. **how long have you been seeing this Dr? Doesn’t sound like you are too far along if you just found out your due date.

Ok, that’s what I need to be able to possibly help you out. (: please, be specific , saying blah, blah, blah doesn’t tell me anything. when I can get some more info from you- then we can move on to trying to figure this out! Ok!? Twilightmom. {•:)>

Hey twighlight mom, lets see if I can answer all of your questions lol. I had to do a 24 hour urine catch…because they wanted to see how high my protein levels were…keep in mind that I almost always have protein in my urine as does my mom…and if it was always caused by kidney failure my moms would have failed years ago..I am 12 weeks pregnant. So basically yeah, what they we’re testing for was more then just a regular prenatal test. She did say it almost rudely…like I shouldn’t be asking questions, and I mean she did say “Were not worried about baby, we’re worried about mom..” but that’s still just as bad, I kind of need to be healthy and seeing how I am only 21, I would like to live a long healthy life. I did just make a new appointment with a different doctor, and we’ll see from here which one I stick with. I feel they were uneducated because the doctor previously said “don’t worry about it Megan..” and she caused all reasons for alarm..I mean, kidneys are needed. She didn’t say they weren’t in yet, she didn’t say anything…she won’t call me back on a matter I feel EXTREMELY important.

Answer #3

Call and report her to her supervisor but remember you have to see this woman every time you go to the doctor. If it makes you that mad then switch your doctor.

Answer #4

So, you’re angry because you received false advice, but you’re also angry that they won’t tell you what you want to know…kind of a catch 22 isn’t it?

The nurse shouldn’t have said anything without first having the test results, but she did say it was only a possibility, she didn’t say it was a fact.

Answer #7

They havent said anything, thats the point and it’s not the doctor its the nurse. The doctor said, don’t worry about it…you’re young you’re healthy we just have to take precautions and so on and so forth, then when I asked the nurse to give me some more information to make me feel a little better she said I could very well have kidney failure…without doing any tests or knowing anything, and thats what pissed me off.

Answer #8

It wasn’t advice, it was an uneducated guess as to what it could be, she never bothered to say that I may not be drinking enough water (it’s been 100 degrees here) or that I may not be consuming enough protein in my diet, she just said the worst possible things…Im mad because I have called and called to get some answers and still no phone call back. The whole point being that she shouldn’t have said something to an expecting young mother who doesn’t know any better. Another thing is that…and any expecting mom or mom out there might know about I feel like they’re not giving me any information. Hell, they didnt even tell me my due date until I asked.

Answer #9

But… you said, ‘’DOCTORS and nurses make me sooo mad!’’ …but the doctor didn’t do anything wrong?

Answer #10

So… what did the doctor say to piss you off?
