Where can I take a violin to be tuned in Sunnyvale, CA?

If you are a beginner than have your teacher or a more advanced student tune it for you. It will need to be tuned right before your recital.

If you have been playing for any length of time your teacher should have already taught you how to tune it yourself. I have a chromatic tuner and it makes tuning violins very easy. Other wise you usually tune your A string to a piano or other pitch source then tune the rest of the strings by playing double stops and adjusting the other strings until the 5ths are in tune. When you are done recheck the A string since sometimes tuning the other strings changes the A string.

I agree with the above. This is my ninth year of violin and I have an excellent tuning device–my ear. And when that fails me I retreat to a tuner or piano to check the fifths. Maybe your violin needs new strings if they sound bad. Ask your violin teacher she’ll know the best brands to buy if that’s necessary. Also, you really really really don’t want to be on stage and have a string pop while you’re up there so double check just in case and keep backups. Maybe there’s something in your violin. You should use your dampit at this time of year, that’s what keeps your violin humid during the winter. If it’s not humid it can crack and it make your strings very out of tune. Also, check your bridge. Your bridge could very likely have moved. Call your violin teacher and ask if you can have her help for a few minutes.
