Positive reward focosed techniques work best. When you catch him doing his business where you do not want, give him trouble, but don’t go over board. Do NOT hit him, rub his nose in it or brutalize him in any way. When he does his business outside, go nuts praising him, make a huge deal of it, pat him, maybe give him a dog treat.

You also want to be sure to get him out regularly, every couple of hours. Get him out as soon as he wakes up, shortly after eating and watch for signs that he needs to go out like excessive sniffing, whining, going over to the door. You may want to limit where he goes in the house so you can keep a better eye on him.

Housetraing a dog can be done in just a couple of weeks if you work hard on, but it takes dedication on your part. I recently fostered a 7 year old dog that had never been in a house before, and it took almost 3 weeks to get him 100% housetrained.

Training to go on a pee pad first is usually easiest. You should be constantly watching your dogs behaviour. There are obvious squirmy ‘I need to pee or poop’ movements you’ll pick up on. When you see this, pick him/her up and as quickly as possible bring the dog to the pad, be sure he does do do on the pad, praise, then move on. Continue this practice until the dog understands that the pad is where to go, then start slowly moving the location of the pee pad closer and closer to the door you want the lil fella to go to, and within a relatively short time you should have yourself a dog that goes to the door when is time to do business. Hope this helps, and good luck!
