Too old to sleep with parents?

My friend is 40 and her kids are 12, 10 and 8. Is it odd that the two older ones crawl into bed with their parents once or twice a week?

Thank you,

Robin

I slept in my mam and dads bed till I was atleast 11 or something, I was just too scared of being alone as I didnt have many friends or anything.. I can remember the first night I slept in my own room! I was awake most of the night crying and up and down to the toilet.. getting drinks etc. but when I fell asleep and woke up I ran to my mam and she was sitting in her bed so proud of me. im 15 and get into bed with her for an hour every morning.. its not weird at all! I dont know what it is but I just love the company of my mam and dad. PLUS THEIR BED IS SO MUCH COMFIER THAN MINE!!!

But I do understand the point that laws are crazy sometimes and to be mindful of this. It is understood that sexual abuse is not an issue here. I appreciate both of your comments though. Thank you.

Answer #3

ummm. misscharlotte, no it’s not. She’s not speaking about sexual abuse…it’s just a child that still sleeps in their parents bed.

Answer #4

Nope , She could get in trouble 10+ Is old enough to get a crimanal record old enough to sleep alone sorry if this sounds harsh x

Answer #5

I think it is a bit strange, it usually indicates that there are some dependency issues, either the mother doesn’t want to “let go” or the children are too dependent on their parents.

Answer #6

It’s unusual for this culture, but there’s nothing wrong with it. Kids who receive lots of physical affection from parents tend to grow up well adjusted.

Answer #7

its not odd it can mean a lot of things

  1. there dependent on there mom a little to much 2)they dont feel safe without her 3)its a bad habit
Answer #8

yeah…

lol..that shows how dependent they are on their mom when they get older, theyre not gonna be able to do anything for themselves without her

Answer #9

I do think that that habit is a bit odd… Don’t children usually stop sleeping with their parents after the age of 6-7? This doesn’t seem very normal. They could be a bit too dependent on their parents, and this won’t be good as they get older. The parents should teach them how to be a bit more independent.

Very nice answer. I appreciate you sharing this with us. Thank you.

Answer #11

Like rhirhiz I slept in my parents room until I was about 12. At that point I completely depended on my parents and had no life outside of them and school. I am now a decent amount older and have a healthy social life, good education, and have been going out with my girlfriend for 2 years this 27th( =) ). your children could turn out fine or not it really depends on them. Also they could be afraid of something like watching a scary movie, thats what happened to me as I recall. hope this helps.

Answer #12

That is a good response. I think my friend’s kids maybe sense that her marriage is slowly coming to an end and they were clingy before that started so the combination of the mother being very deeply close to her children and the children sensing some worries may explain some of this as well. Thanks so much for your kind answer.
