Does anyone have any tips on how to remove small ticks off of your dog?

Answer #1

Positive reinforcement. Things like little treats or praise when the dog has completed a step of the trick or the whole trick (Depending on how complex it is) will make want to try to do the trick since dogs like pleasing their owners. Also, don’t try to do the trick too long because the dog will get bored or dread learning tricks. I suggest using a toy as a reward so it’ll be more fun for the dog.

How many are there?

Really your best bet it to just go to the vet and have them remove them, and make sure they aren’t carrying diseases. Make sure you get the whole tick out, if you do get them out yourself but I REALLY think it’s in your best interest to just take your dog to the vet.

If you still think you should get them out now at home, get a clean pair of tweasers and simply pluck them out. Make sure, again, to get the entire tick. TAlk to your dog, make sure she’s calm. You might use an icecube to numb the area a smidge. Lots of treats and soothing words for your dog, stroke his or her head and know how good he or she is being, letting you sit there and fix er’ up.

When my dog had them, my mum sat with him and removed each one with tweezers and put them in a container with dishwashing liquid in it. I guess it drowned them.

Answer #7

I’ve used a pair of tweezers before but can still be difficult. You may need someone to help you by “holding” the dog while you work. It is very important to get em off and also keep em off. I seen where Miss Colleen posted a tip on how to make your own flee and tick collar.

ok thanks everyone! (:

Answer #9

Oops Colleens tip is for fleas and didn’t say ticks, but anyway a good idea.

Answer #10

I use a little flea comb with teeth/bristles/metal things that are really close together, or if I can’t get them that way I use tweezers and just drop the ticks in hydrogen peroxide.

Answer #11

Oil and and some tweezers.

Be sure you get the whole tick. Half doesn’t cut it; a tick’s head can still suck blood from your dog long after it’s body has been removed.
