What is the best thing to feed baby chickens?

They sell chick starter feed for baby chickens. In the meantime you can feed them dry instant oatmeal, flaked baby cereal, or ground up oats cereal. Be sure that you only feed them human food for a few days. The chick feed has more of the nutrients they need and less ingrediants. Also make sure they have water and are kept very warm (80-90 degrees) which is usually done by purchasing or making a heating/incubater box. As for the chicks that died it could have been numerous reasons why. Lack of food or water, being picked up, diseases, not being warm enough, trauma from the mother chicken, etc.

I live on a farm and have raised tons of chickens. They have a very weak immune systom and can just drop dead as babies, so dont look into it to much. Do not, I repeat NOT give them milk. Since when do chickens drink milk? Buy some small chicken grain and sprinkle it on the floor of their cage, then use your finger and tap at the ground, to teach them how to peck like their mother would. It will take awhile, like a few hours, if not a day, but they have to learn everything naturally, otherwise they cant fend for themselves.

I had lots of baby chicks, and sometimes they just died. I wouldn’t be too worried about the other ones, just make sure they are getting food that is made for chickens and they are warm and dry.

They make a special feed for baby chickens that my friend uses. I believe the stuff my friend uses has everything they need, including the small pebble and/or sand which is stored in the gizzard to help digestion. Also remember baby chickens need to be kept warm.

I used to use hard boiled egg yolks mixed with a little sugar and water when I was out of feed. I wouldn’t make it their permanent diet however.

We fed ours bread soaked in water and bread soaked in milk. If it isn’t soaked it can kill them I think.
