Who thinks video games rot the brain?

And explain why you think it rots the brain.

Answer #1

No, I think it keeps the brain going in a weird kind of way because the player has to continuously think of what they need to do next, what move to make, stuff to choose, where to obtain it or how to obtain it and more. The only bad thing is video games distract a lot of people from finishing what they need to and they might feel the need to do that first over everything else or be a bit obsessive which is why someone may think “it rots the brain.”

Answer #2

I’m sure that too much video games could be neurologically bad if for no other than taking you away from other beneficial activities. I think video games are probably a good way to work our brain so long as it doesn’t get out of hand. I think passively watching TV is probably worse for your brain than actively playing a video game.

Answer #3

I don’t think video games ‘rot’ your brain; I find video games actually cause you use your brain more then if you were doing something such as watching TV. You think up strategies, try to think up quick solutions to win, etc.

The main issue I think that comes along with excessive video game playing, in any case, is the decreased physical activity. They are introducing games for gaming systems these days that are targeted around physical activity (WII Fit, etc), but for games such as Call Of Duty, all you do is sit in one position. If you play a game that just requires thumb movement for hours on end, this will end up being unhealthy.

If you play games instead of going to school or doing homework then it can hinder your education, but the video games themselves aren’t rotting anything, imho.

Answer #4

Video games do not rot they brain they provide the brain with constant stimulation depending on the game. You need to think of stratgies, like everyone else is saying. Some games even have a math aspect to it. Watching tv does rot the brain. Studies have shown when people watch tv(not documentaries and other shows providing knowledge) their brain waves mimic that of someone in a coma almost completely. Video games can be bad because it decreases people acvitiy, they become obsessivee and some games teach bad morals to younger people. Overal video games should not be looked as something that “rots the brain” because it does the exact opposite. You can argue it rots some peoples social lives though.
