Who thinks that doctors shouldnt tell teens that if they lose weight they will be beautiful?

I seriously lost 40 lbs, went to the doctor and first thing she tells me is i need to lose 30 more to be pretty, she didnt acknowledge the weight i had lost, and the only reasons she gave me to lose more weight werent for health concerns. I mean i can handle it, but i just dont think its a healthy message for a doctor to be giving to adolescents. opinion?

doctor dont say that, well not the ones i know of!!! if they do then thats realllly wrong of them!!! i mean really wrong, that just makes teens go crazy and stop eating. Ugh that really makes me mad…

Answer #2

I agree with you.

However I can understand why she said that, doctors are after all only human and that was probably HER WAY of trying to be gentle in telling you to lose weight without hurting your feelings.

All though I do not think that she succeeded.

Answer #3

what kind of doctor would say that?

Answer #4

First of, I know how hard it is to lose weight, and I hate saying congratulations for weight loss, it just sounds weird to me, so this is my awkward attempt at saying you worked hard and I’m acknowledging that.

As for your doctor, that was a highly idiotic thing to say. I dont think this has anything to do with the fact that she’s a doctor. She’s a human being, and obviously one with issues. You dont have to be skinny to be beautiful. That’s her issue and her hang up. The weight thing, you’re working on it. I dont think ANYONE should be telling someone they need to lose weight to be beautiful. It’s one of those, you’d be so beautiful if only you’d lose weight. It’s just idiotic.

Answer #5

yeah well im proud of my now 50 lb weight loss anyway, and im still working on it, but this whole issue was a bump in the road that ive finally gotten past it, but i just worry about every other teen that goes in there and recieves the same treatment

Answer #6

a doctor shouldnt say that in my opinion.that is just wrong.specially after you work hard after losing that much weight.

Answer #7

lose weight to be beautiful? thats what everyone believes now adays. “youre so beautiful, but youre just big.. thats all” i use to hear those words all the time.. from friends too! actually, i still hear those words, the weight that i lost isnt good enough for em.. lol.. but i always thought that if i lost the weight i would be satisfied with myself.. but wrong! evenn though u lose the weight, you’ll never be satisfied with who you are.. it also depends on how u lost the weight.. i lost it through bullimia.. and i hate myself for it. it isnt all about whats on the outside dammit.. because looks dont last forever.. :) you lose weight to be healthy, not to look like alll those other models on tv.. lol.. u lose weight to feel good about urself.. that doctor was wrong for telling whoever that.. very wrong! that doctor should be questioned about his professionalism.. lol.. if thats a word? telln kids that will not help them, it’ll bring them down more, lower their self esteem.. if it was said to you.. then.. honey, you ARE BEAUTIFUL! losing weight just to achieve looks is stupid! if ur gna lose weight, do it the healthy way.. ok? good luck on the journey :) all the best hun.. and that doctor is no doctor!
