The pill.. and pregnacy?

Im on the pill.. but I always forget to take it regualryy so some nights I might take it at half 4 and others about 11 pm (you get the drift)… could this effect my chances of becoming pregnant, as me and my boyfriend had sex without a condom and im now suffering from stomache pains low down in my belly and sensitive breasts?

Answer #1

Yeah it could…the pill delivers a regular dose of hormones into your body that you need at the same time each day for it to work.

There is a good chance that you are pregnant, the pill is 99% effective AS LONG AS you take it more or less the same time everyday. Taking it maybe two or three hours off won’t make it that much less effective, but the way you are taking it isn’t right at all. Start taking your pill the same time everyday and if you miss your next period take a pregnancy test, or better go to a doctor early for a test.

There isn’t any form of contraception that is 100% effective, but the pill is more effective when taken at the same time every day. The pill can often cause tender breasts and whatnot, so if you feel like you may be pregnant, the only way to determine whether or not you are is to take a pregnancy test or to visit your doctor.

In the future, though you may be taking the pill, please remember that it’s always important to use condoms as well. This not only gives you additional protection from becoming pregnant, but it also helps prevent your chances of getting a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

If you’d like some more information on the pill, here’s an awesome link to a planned parenthood site that answers a lot of questions you may have:

Take care.

Answer #4

Yes, you could very well get pregnant more easily if you are not taking your pill regularly at the same time daily. I hope this doesn’t sound like preaching, but sex is a big responsibility. Maybe you might consider switching to a form that requires less effort, like the ring or shot. They are also up to 99% effective, and are good choices for women who have trouble remembering a pill. You might also want to see your doctor for a pregnancy test, because if you are pregnant, you will need to stop taking those pills asap. Good luck!
