The Gods and Goddesses

I am a Wiccan and as such believe in the God/s and Goddess/es. However there is no proof of any God/dess at all. So how do I reconcile these 2 things. Well I think that the God/dess is a symbol. I think that all the life on earth in its self make up the Goddess as a Figure. In other worlds I think the Goddess is a result of all life not the other way around. The God/s are the same thing. A figure to represent the “Spark of Life” the thing that makes life, life. Be it chemical, mysterious, etc..

We use symbols everyday. In magick we use symbols to draw energy and separate its uses since we can’t contain pure energy.

In other words I believe that, even in Wicca, God/desses are made from the minds of humans.

So my question is, to Wiccans Witches and all who know what it is, what do you think. Dose this go against the beliefs in Wicca?

Answer #1

No, It isn’t I believe in the god/ess’s that are up in the sky but when I need to visualize it I visualize in my head as an everyday man and women that have higher powers than the other.

I agree with the goddess point of view that the earth is the goddess herself. I have never heard of the god mentioned except in the horned god testimonials or whatever they are called.

im pagan and I beleive in gods and goddesess but everyone has there own interpretation of gods and goddess as witches have to magik perosnaly I beleive a god/goddess is an energy within nature, because when ever I call a god or goddess during ritual I can feel a pressence there, same ones for every god or goddess, like calling a really dark god/goddess I will feel a very dark pressence, and vice versa just like the bible has many interpretations, same with magik and gods/goddess

Answer #3

Thank you all. popanna I think you missed the point though

Answer #4

I like the way you are thinking. That the goddess/gods are a result of the life on earth, not that we are a result of them.

That’s been my problem with wicca though. I studied it, but I just can’t get my head around the “no proof” thing.

we as humans choose to name everything we see- so that we can communicate it to others.

as a wiccan it is no different, I visualize a primitive man ( or woman) seeing lightning for the first time- and recognizing it’s power and beauty- and NAMING what they saw. that is how we have the name LIGHTNING now- we all know what someone is talking about when that name is mentioned.

so in my rites- I know what natural force I am seeking to utilize- and through the centuries, even what name is associated with that force. it just makes things so much easier and helps with the focus.

I have called on a couple of my norse gods for inspiration in the past, and have received what I was asking for- once again using a name to focus on a specific part of our great earth mothers power.

modern science backs up my beliefs of natural forces- the moon goddess exerts her influence on the earth every day- and even on us, to a degree.

we deal with the force of the wind on a daily basis, as we occasionally deal with fire, and we have all witnessed what water can do when its power is unleashed.

those reading this will know what I am referring to- because all of those natural forces have a name. and learning to tap into those forces and become one with them is what I seek to do in my religious practices.

if the “wind” was renamed “whoosh” it would still be the same force of nature.

we are all children of nature, and as such- nature would still “be” if we were gone tomorrow.

One reason why I’m a witch, I don’t believe in any Gods or Goddesses But no, you don’t believe you are going against any Wiccan rules. There’s 2 Goddesses, one to represent the Moon & one the earth. Then there’s the riple Goddess/es(depending if you believe in Hera that represents the 3 stages or one for each phase) maiden, mother, crone(I’m sure you know so I wont waste your time explaining them ^_^) The you have The God/s It’s become common to believe in 2 Gods actually, The oak King (he rules the waxing part of the year from midwinter to midsummer) & the Holly King(which rules the waning part of the year from midsummer to midwinter). this is actually where the Christain religion has tied in with the Pagans. The God died & for three days lay dead until the winter solstic in which her was born again(Christains take place on Easter though). The God corraspnds with the sun, of corse. Half man, half animal, & half divine. He represents the stages of the masculine life. Born weak & feable, grow into manhood, then becomes old & wise(can be compared to the crone). Really even the ancients used them to represent things. Though there were(& still are) those who believe them to be actual dieties there were those who fancied them as symbols. Wicca is based off the ancients, so I belive it wont go against anything.

There are people who don't believe in a tangible God/dess but will worship a personal God/dess & call upon them during their magick work in belief that it helps the focus more & concentrate they're energy better. Better tap into their powers I guess, so the magick they're performing will turn out better to their likings.

In high school my friend and I practice Wicca; but when I was praying with them they knew that I was praying to my God(Christian)…the way I look at is there is only one God and he is all the god and goddess…you pray you have faith than I think in the end the only thing that matters to god is that you have faith…where it be direct toward him, his children (every human), or the earth he made…you can decide for yourself…but when the end of the world does come you will face him and then you will know…all you will have to do is ask for forgiveness for you knew of him and turned your back but many do that…as long as you are kind and have faith I am sure when put face to face w/ the Lord you will take your second chance…then you will have the proof you seek. Until than you should do what believe whatever you think is logical…the mind is ones greats treasure.
