Texas governor wants to secede, what is he thinking?

So the Texas governor made a speech the other day & said that under the 10th amendment, they might secede from the union…ok. Texas receives more Federal dollars than the contribute to the rest of the country (unlike California, which loses money to the Federal government)…so, if Texas bails, the rest of us win (eg, we don’t have to support the free loaders any longer, AND the federal military bases & money move to other states).

What do you think? Should Texas secede or is the Governor off his rocker? Personally, I say good riddance…it’s hurting MY family to support them & the other free loading states.

Answer #1

I think in your words the governor is off his rocker.

Answer #2

Are Govner isn’t dumb, hes just saying that if are goverments “comunism” dosent stop we could leave legaly beacuse of the Texas-American Annexation Treaty of 1848, so get your facts right

Answer #3

ha great just what the u.s needs texas leaving man texas would go back to mexico hahaha man everybody here would be screwed our governor is a dumbass.

Answer #4

Your answer should be spelled “our” not “are”…:)

And, republic_of_texas, the governor of Texas retracted his statement later on, why? Because Texas is one of those states that is a net recipient of federal tax dollars…in other words, Texans would be worse off, if they seceded, than if they stayed part of the union.

This upset me, personally, because I live in a state where we’d be better off if we were independent, financially, than being part of the union today :)

Answer #5

ha ha that’s funny… if they secede, then I will too. it will be great.. texas will be gone, and one house in indiana too… I’ll have to go through border control every time I leave my house :)

Answer #6

Gosh, Republicans have been out of power four whole months! Obviously it is time for conservatives to try to fracture the union! Four months out of power, oh the horror! Interesting that conservatives talk like Democracy is this great thing that has to be spread to the middle East but as soon as elections don’t go the way they want it at home they talk about quitting the union.

I did read an article after the 2004 election that discussed splitting North American up differently. It suggested that the liberal leaning Great Lakes and coastal states would really be happier as being part of Canada while conservative central provinces of Canada would be happier if they were part of the US. So we’d have California, Canada and Saskatchewan, USA. Interesting idea anyway.

Answer #7

Is it really so ridiculous to talk about such things?

It’s not like the US was handed down from God - it’s a human institution, and like all such institutions, it’s valid to discuss changing. That said, I think Perry ‘clarified’ what he meant (I.e. retracted with spin).

Answer #8

republicans have been out of power since dems took control of house and senate… and I wouldnt mind them leaving the union they were their own country before why not again? if you dont live in texas I dont think we have a right to judge really its in their constitution just like cali likes to grow and smoke pot
