Can a teenager have dementia?

For a while now I have been seeing, hearing, and smelling things that aren’t there. My thoughts get mixed up and I can’t remember much of anything anymore. I put my symptoms in on webMD and dementia popped up… but so did paranoia. I don’t know what to think anymore, except I want to be able to remember my childhood and not have to have my dog in my bedroom because (as illogical as I know it is) I feel like evil creatures will try to kìll me in my sleep. What, if anything, is WRONG with me?

Whereas you cannot be given a reliable diagnosis from what you have described, I do not think that this can be accurately described as “dementia”.

However, you may find it informative to read up about “psychosis”: http://funadvice.com/r/3jsji14s1n and, it may also be useful, to take the test at http://funadvice.com/r/16b0b7e27s1 .

These symptoms can be temporary (though they may also recur in future), and can arise from stress (which you may not even be aware is acting upon you to any significant extent), and a variety of other triggers such as alcohol or drügs (e.g. cannabis).

Please note: I really do think it is worth booking an appointment with a Doctor to have these symptoms properly assessed and treated if necessary. Failure to do so may result in the symptoms deteriorating to the point at which you are not even aware that you may be in need of professional help.

It’s called schizophrenia usual onset is around the time you hit puberty give or take a few years.

hearing seeing and smelling or tasting things that are not there is one of the more prominent signs (apart from that dog thing) Go to a doctor, get treatment, there will be some tough times ahead of you, stay strong!
