a week ago I got a tattoo, when does the itching stop?

a week ago I got a green shamrock tat on my upper back and it still flakes a bit sometimes (green flakes)..is this normal and when does the itching stop?

Answer #1

When its completely healed, my man is a tat artist… give it time… :)

Answer #2

DO NOT USE LOTION! it will ruin the color!!!

use A&D ointment to help the healing process and to prevent infection. It itches because of the scabs because basically a tattoo is a wound that is healing.

the a&d will help keep it moist so it won’t itch as much…

Answer #3

The itching stops a few weeks after you get a tattoo, use lotion & stay out of the sun to make sure the colors don’t fade as the tattoo ink settles into your skin.

The flaking stops after about 10-14 days, as well - and don’t pick at it!

Answer #4

It takes a while to stop itching DON’T use AD ointment for more than the first two days, it will leach the color, and don’t use much just enough to make the tattoo shine a bit, petroleum leaches color from fresh tats. Lotion when it itches should help, not too much, you don’t want to make the scabs too soft, they’ll fall off and fade the tat. The lotion you use should be fragrance free and hypoallergenic, no color ect.

Answer #5

don’t use AD ointment for too long or too much of it the petroleum will leach color. Use fragrance free, hypo allergenic lotion, when the tattoo starts to get dry. Don’t over use it the scabs will get too soft and come off too soon which will fade the tattoo

Answer #6

It usually takes a couple of weeks for the itching of a fresh tattoo to stop completely.

Use either A & D ointment or a fragrance free, hypo allergenic lotion on the tattoo to keep dryness and itchiness to a minimum. Be careful how much you use, because too much may make the color fade.
