What should I do about my new swollen industrial?

I’ve had lots of piercings, but none of them ever got this swollen! It’s more painful than when I got my corset piercing, my nape, my septum, my other cartilage, and snake bites… Is there anything I can do for the pain and swelling or do I wait it out?

Answer #1

Do your best to keep from bumping it and irritating it further, this includes rinsing it really good after youve used conditioner and moving your jewelry around. Conditioner is amazing at irritating piercings. DO NOT smother it in solution. Clean it regularly as directed but dont put any other agents on it, if you have discharge that you would like to remove, rinse it with water but dont pick at any dried discharge. I dont think an ice pack could hurt to take the swelling down. I have had mine done for four years now and I know its a pain in the butt :P good luck!

Answer #2

Thank you so much. Should I refrain from washing my hair much then? O.o

Answer #3

I also remember using really cold water from the tap on it. It seemed to help calm it down.

Answer #4

No I wouldnt. Id wash my hair as normal, but avoid getting shampoo and conditioner near that ear and when youre rinsing I would just tilt my head to the side without the piercing. Then right before you step out of the shower i would give it a really good rinse with the water and move the jewelry to get out any soap that may have worked its way into the hole. It may also become grumpy when you are on your menstrual cycle. I know mine did and my piercer actually told me that it was normal and to just keep doing what I was doing.

Answer #5

Ah, ok. That makes sense. How long do you think it will be swollen for?

Answer #6

By doing your best to make sure it isnt irritated, it should only stay swollen for a few days. It may be sore for a quite a while and after four years sometimes mine is sore at night. Its normal,

Answer #7

Damn, this is probably the worst piercing to get lol

Answer #8

Ahahaha yes, it really is. :P

Answer #9

I would take it out but I spent 35 bucks on it so…I’m going to power through but this a nasty pain. I can’t even put my clothes on without freaking out about touching it. -_-

Answer #10

It could be swollen because it’s pulling on the cartilage- I think you should message Michelle, she’ll probably be able to answer this questions well. (satanheadbangstometal)

Answer #11

Thank you :3

Answer #12

You should go back to your piercer and ask him/her. It could just be the jewelry or placement, but they’ll know exactly what to do.

Answer #13

Much appreciation.

Answer #14

Anti-inflammatories.
