Why do I swear while sleeping?

I used to swear whilst I slept a couple if years back and after a while it stopped. Recently it’s started again, it’s not only me swearing but I wake up bolt upright, heart pounding, and sweating. I’m not waking up from a dream, because I dream very rarely. I’m also told that when I swear it’s very loud, infect the other night I woke my parents up. I was just wondering what the causes may be and what I can do/take to stop it, it’s really annoying me now as I’m waking up with less energy than I went to sleep with. Thanks xx

I think mostly likely you’re having bad dreams where you feel the need to swear. People dream every night, whether you remember the dream or not. You’re probably just not remembering it. Maybe this is happening because you’re really stressed, who knows. I’d recommend you going to a sleep clinic and ask to be observed since this is an ongoing problem. Good luck!

This reminds me of my ex. I would always wake up to him talking in his sleep… well more of yelling and swearing, and he would move around a lot. One night he almost punched me and took me out. It was so close.. Do you swear a lot in .. well real life? Sometimes that’s just normal for you and so you’ll swear in dreams too, like its nothing.

Dreaming would be the cause, believe it or not we do not remember most of the things we dream, some people have no recollection of their dreams. If you are going through a stressful time then that can be what causes the swearing. I talk in my sleep when I am very stressed, my friend goes sleep walking or used to. If it becomes such a problem that it is preventing you from obtaining a good night’s rest you need to see a doctor.
