That’s the way the writer wanted it. Superman also can take 6 bullets in the face but HAS TO DUCK when the shooter throws the empty gun at him.

…lead presumably because it has long known to deflect X-rays, and the write probably assumed that people would have heard of that and would more readily accept Superman as having ‘X-ray- vision.
