Sigh, it’s awful. I hate BSL. Here in Miami, it’s even worse. You can’t have any dog that has “pitbull characteristics”. (So even mixes aren’t allowed). If they find you with one, you get fined $500 AND they take your dog to put it to sleep.

It’s sick.

Katydid is right on the money. It’s the owners of the breed, not the breed, itself…

There are many associations working AGAINST BSL…, it might be too late where you live, but there are many places in the US that haven’t felt they had to go that far…you might want to volunteer your time and effort towards keeping BSL at bay elsewhere…If nothing else, fighting ignorance by spreading the word…using your Pit as an example of what the breed is REALLY about, etc etc…may lesson the restrictions eventually, even in your area.

Anyone who believes that BSL is only about Pitbulls is living in a fantasy world!! It’s about any breed over 50 lbs that doesn’t hunt…the politicians just haven’t gotten that far…YET.

ban the deed not the breed! just because one pitbull attack happens, that doesnt mean that ALL pitbulls will attack. if people train their pits to fight, obviously they will fight. if people train them to be decent and behaved animals, for the most part, they will be. this is true of almost any dog that is naturally coded to hunt. I live in florida and just the other day a small dog was attacked by greyhounds. the greyhounds had managed to get out of the house, unbeknownst to the owners, and chased after this small dog. the kicker: they used to run at the track, chasing that small little rabbit looking thing. they were only doing what we, as human beings, had taught them to do. how can we punish a breed of dogs, just because a handful of them have bad owners, or are trained to fight and kill?

I know there are several states that are trying to ban having pitbulls as pets. I know that Oklahoma is one of those states, but haven’t come to any real decision yet. I’ve had a pitbull since I was a small kid, probably one of the most loving animals I’ve had. He had to be put down due to medical issues though. I particulary don’t see the need to ban the breed. I think attacks from dogs deal more with the owner than it does with the breed. Any dog can be trained. Any dog that is not trained properly can attack anyone or anything. Dogs need to be shown who is the pack leader. Without a pack leader (meaning the owner) they will take matters into their own hands.
