How can I stop the littlest things from making me depressed and upset?

Answer #1

The same thing used to happen to me, too. I would just think of how little it is, and think of how much of a bigger problem it could cause if you don’t let it go. It helps a lot also to walk away for a while and calm down, or just brush it off. If that doesn’t help, then you might need to get put on anxiety medicine like I did. It does help, though.

Answer #2

I don’t know.. I would like to know the answer to that.. Sounds like we’re in the same boat..

Answer #3

like it usually happens when im alone or not talking to anybody to keep my mind off of it. like if someone says stuff i’ll over think it get really depressed or upset over what might happen and usually it doesnt. i could think of things that have happened before. i can never let anything go and its easier for me to think about the sad stuff than happy. i dont know what to do anymore, i not only bring myself down but alot of other people too..

Answer #4

I am very much like that. THe littlest things can set me off, can have me breaking down, yelling, or whatever. Best way is to give yourself time to cool off from whatever caused it. Just walk away, leave the room, call the person back later, listen to some music, for a while to let yourself calm down and think more clearly before confronting it again if you have to.

Answer #5

I do that too. It’s usually me just being crabby though. But you just gotta think your better & smarter than that & that it’s something small it’s not worth getting upset over, think like you’d be awkward if you saw someone else getting upset over whatever it is.

Answer #6

im usually alone or keep to myself until im alone to break down over it, i have a very low self esteem/confidence so i couldnt tell myself anything to calm down :l

Answer #7

yeaah, its not very fun..

Answer #8

well see, whenever i try to leave the room to calm down before freaking out i get screamed at, which makes it worse because i HATE that, i get followed and the same stuff happens into the next room or people call me/text me over and over again until i reply and it gets annoying :l

Answer #9

I am manic depressant, so it happens on the dialy for me. I just have to force myself to stay optamistic and remember that everything happens for a reason, it will get better, and no one makes it out of life alive. So I have to deal with what comes my way, and strive to live another day.

Answer #10

& I do a lot of the things already, that they have recommended to do.. I’m in, no, I’ve been in a slump..

Answer #11

Answer #12

when i get into those phases, i try to occupy myself or think of something exciting or do something to get my mind off it. as for getting upset about little things, its the story of my life still to this day. my bf always says take a deep breath b4 freaking out and calmly explain why you are upset. i try to collect why i’m upset and explain to the person why i am instead of freaking out. or if its something stupid nothing to do with a person i take 3 deep breaths to calm myself. i get mad a stupid things and i just need to take a moment and realize how its not worth it getting upset.

Answer #13

its been this way since i was likrle 9, its not really a teenager phase lol

Answer #14

you are not the only one…so many feel like this…I have to say life is like a roller coaster one min everything is ok, then something happens to trigger it and you are down…we all go through it…there is no right or wrong way to deal with it! My best advice is to find people that understand you swap stories & help one another through them. Another you can do is find a self improvement class that can help you find what it is in yourself that you can or wish to improve.

Like a project…I have already recommended this to a friend.
set a date where you & a friend you trust can meet once a week at the same time for 3 hours…a neutral place…where you can grab a cup of coffee/or some other beverage of your choice, a place you can be left alone to talk. Make sure you bring a blank paper…a pen & anticipation. If you are not serious about it then dont bother…if you want to change this is how you begin. The first 5 mins, after you sit down I want you to close your eyes & picture yourself on a tropical island. Feel the wind blowing on your face and try to focus on hearing birds…take a few deep breaths til you are able to clear your mind. Now you will feel a bit more relaxed. begin the session. ask one another how their day was & how they feel emotionally about it. Now see if you can offer one another advice about their situation. Now take the empty paper & list 15 things you would like to accomplish til the end of the year… call it your accomplishments for 2011…you will have 6 months to do this in…as your project…you will meet that person 1 day a week to check up on the accomplishments. Every week explain to them what you have accomplished that week, and how it made them feel…by taking turns it will allow you to see what accomplishments you can complete if you set your mind to it. once you have completed everything on that list…you can allow yourself to treat yourself to something…a day at a spa…a special dinner…a gadget you have always wanted but didnt think you deserved…it can be anything…even a book! Something to show yourself appreciation for a job well done! Dont forget to also treat the other person as well for being there for you as a back up and also for the desire to carry out this project with you!
In the list…you can add what you want…what you need or what you wish to change about yourself…it has to be reasonable as well…like a trip to the big city…losing 10 lbs…getting your drivers license, passing your final exam…anything that may be on your mind…but remember…you have til December to accomplish them all! Good Luck to those who wish to participate in this project! Hope it helps you! :)
