How do you stop a 12 year old black lab from digging?

He just started this a year or so ago. The chocolate lab (same age) doesn’t dig but the black lab is destroying everything from the yard to flower beds to a rock garden. We like our dogs but it’s become so ridiculous I’m ready to kill him!!! As old as he is, I wonder if he is losing his mind or something. These dogs are on invisible fence and have plenty of room to run (2 1/2 acres) The fence isn’t even turned on anymore because they know their boundaries and stay home. Any suggestions?

Well he isn’t digging for moles or anything. I wonder if he’s just bored.

Answer #4

do u play and run w him

Answer #5

Well, not as much as I should I guess. His age has done a number on his hips and he doesen’t get around as well as he used to. He’s content as long as I’m home and he gets to lay on the floor here in my workshop. I think he gets pissed off when I’m gone working for 12 hours.

Answer #6

yea see i k understand at least he didnt ruin ur sofa usually dog if they mad they would ruining something u use alot or thry wont eat but he might be sad that u dont spend enough time w him that could be the reason

Answer #7

Right on. They are outside dogs. It’s the yard ect they are ruining. I’m gone bout 14-15 hours a day related to work. They are great watch dogs, but do need more attention.
