Would you stay at a job that you're not great at?

I guess I should be more specific. I was ‘promoted’ at work; no pay raise but way more responsibility. The thing is, I’m great at the lower position but only average at the higher position. Would you keep the job or would you go back to your old position?

Answer #1

Yes, I would go back to my old position. I would rather do a job well and feel good about it, than do a job average and feel bad.

Answer #2

I wonder, though, if that would reflect poorly on me? If management would see it as a lack of motivation on my part? I’m only asking because it’s my first job and I’m very unsure of how the job world works :/

Answer #3

Yes, sadly I think you are right. I don’t think its right that you’ve gotten more responsibility, which to me means more stress, and you didn’t get a pay raise.

Answer #4

I agree :/

Answer #5

If there is no money in the promotion, then I would go back to my other position. Why take on an extra workload and stress, if you aren’t going to be learning any new skills, or getting paid any more? If, however, there was a pay-rise, then I would take the promotion.

Answer #6

Well I am in the boat everyone hates, I am maxed out in my current position, and I am trying to move to another position which would give me more room for growth, but they are dragging there feet. I am getting other job offers from other companies, but I am kinda tired of job hoping. I have changed companies 6 times in the past 10 years.
