squirt wants to be number one.

I have 4 dogs. three are big. one is an english bulldog. the english bulldog is not yet a year (8 months). he is always challenging me and the others for dominance. (trying to hump the others, they are all boys) how do I get the little bugger to knock it off? I’ve tried every thing yelling, spanking, feeding the others first, nothing! of course it dont help that my honey lets him get away with it. so im looking like the bad guy when I try to correct him, and he’s even started growling at me, not listening to me when I say time to go out, time to come in blah blah blah… he is very cocky and it goes right through me! hes got the attatude I dont have to listen to you (you can just see it in his eyes) he’ll even try to stair me down (until I get with in spanking range then he looks away) what do I do??? help!

There is no way to stop them from humping each other. The only thing you can try to do is tell them to stop. They might grow out of it. If you get a spray botle and squirt them when they do it, it might help. My dog loves water, but when I spray them, they don’t like it. I wouldn’t count on it helping though. If it is in their nature, they won’t stop for nothing.

Seems like humping is the lesser problem, or rather, an expression of the main problem - the dominance issue. One of the common mistakes of dog training is inconsistency, that is, different people treat the same behavior differently, and in the end the dog is confused and does what it wants. So it’s very important to get it straight with your honey and anybody else so they know what the rules are. No getting away with it. Be firm and don’t back off, and sooner or later the pooch will get it. Dogs are very hierarchical, so if there is a definite leader, they will obey, but if the leader is shaky, they’ll challenge him/her until they take the top position. Don’t let him do that, always have it clear who’s boss.
