Is it possible to add words to a dog tag with a soldering gun/iron?

I would buy the dog tag but im wondering if i would be able to solder the words into the dog tag/heart and if i could cut out the heart from the dog tag?

Soldering irons are used to melt solder. A regular soldering iron will definitely not be able to cut the heart out of the dog tag. Words like that are usually made with an engraving machine.

The dog tag you have in the picture is made out of stainless steel. Like Jan said, a soldering iron wouldn’t be able to cut the heart out or make the letters in that. If you live near a “Things Remembered” store, they can do both of those things for you with their engraving machine.
