Why does most of society see tan skin as beautiful and pale skin as the opposite?

I honestly love women is pale skin, its softer, its more healthy, it reminds me of porcelin dolls, gorgeous.

Answer #1

tan skin = vacation = prosperity = attraction

interestingly enough some cultures in other areas of the world have it the other way around. pale skin = no outdoor job = better education = prosperity = attraction

Answer #2

In my world it’s actually quite the opposite. In my country you’re shamed for being dark and praised for being light because it is considered beautiful. As it seems, I end up being tan, which girls shouldn’t be (not according to my words but rather my relatives), because they should give out the air of innocence, purity and maternity.. But America as it seems likes tans? I don’t know but I think that any skin tone is beautiful. I’ve had enough of people with fake tans though.

Answer #3

everyone wants what they don’t have naturally and also sun is related to happiness.. whereas in countries of mostly no sun or gloom the people are literally depressed most of the year. The countries or people who think that no tan is better happen to be the people who are naturally brown or light brown and in their society being more pale is more high class and educated.. even to go so far as take placenta pills to be white and bleaching the skin and so many other things.. so back to the main point.. everyone wants what they aren’t naturally..

Answer #4

well im VERY pale and ive never had any problems from people about it. i mean my friends pick on me but they’re just kidding. i dont think skin tone should affect how people judge you.

Answer #5

well in england most people are pale cause we never see the sun LOL but some men would rather go for girls who slap on fake tann then naturally pale girls

confusing :/

Answer #6

i think both are pretty when i lived in vegas i was tat as tan can be. but now here in germany i cant find a foundation pale enough for me :(

Answer #7

I find pale more attractive, which is probably why I keep myself so pale. There actually isn’t foundation that I’ve found yet that is light enough for my skin, most of it makes me look almost orange. Really I think it’s all personal preference for people.

Answer #8

same here!!

Answer #9

I totally agree with stavosh. It’s sad and silly but it’s how we see things these days. In some parts of the world though, tanned skin is seen as the lower class. Working hard outside in the heat, while the higher class would be inside either very rich with servants and slaves, or middle class working in a shop (which was considered a good job).

Answer #10

Most of the society where? In many parts of Asia and Africa, pale skin is seen as more beautiful.

Answer #11

Thats not true. Pale skin is extremely beautiful and if you are too tan it becomes seen as ugly.

Answer #12

I love pale skin but I think it sometimes depends on the person. Some people look better with a tan while others look better with fair skin. I have cousins and one friend of mine who are really tan and mentioned before how light my skin is and I prefer to keep it that way

Answer #13

I personally think that tan reflects as happiness. You can imagine a tanned woman on holiday, relaxed, out with mates, whatever, but people often think of emo’s and goths with pale skin, or generally more unhappy people. I know this is not the case, you are born with what your born with, but I think that is how it comes across.

Answer #14

Why does society see light skin as beautiful nd dark skin as the opposite?

Answer #15

from your pictures i think your as pale as i am and i am pale i tell you pale! go out in the sun = painful sunburn = peeling= eventually leads to more freckles my advice: ppl will like you for who you are. i know i will never tan and dont try really hard to get tan if i do get a shade darker then yay! but if not then no biggy. most ppl joke and say i have pastey white skin but i choose to remember the good compliments i get on my skin: clear skin healthy skin and porcelan skin (way better than being called pastey white!!)
