Singing High

How do you pass the break/bridge in your voice when you sing.

Answer #1

Make sure you’re in proper posture and using proper breathing technique(breathing with your diaphragm). Always warm up your voice, if you don’t it may cause strain and can damage your voice. Make sure you get enough breath support. Also, make sure the soft pallet is lifted, your mouth is open at least 2-3 finger spaces so you don’t “swallow” your voice. Make sure you achieve the “flip” to your “high” voice rather than stretching and potentially damaging your standard voice. If you’re indeed doing all these things and your voice cracks it may not be in your voice range. Take voice lessons, and perhaps over time you may achieve it. If you’re in chorus, make sure they know what the heck they’re teaching, lol. I’m sure you may also be able to look ways up on youtube.

nothing you can really do but practice…people who sing high are called sapranos…there are different voice parts…1st saprano, 2nd saprano, 1st alto, 2nd, alto, 1st tenor, 2nd tenor, baratone, 1st bass, 2nd, bass…if you practice and cant hit high then that just means its not you voice part and you are an alto and you will never be able to sing that high. I was in chorus for 5 years so thats how I know this.

Blueeyes28 needs to be a little more educated on the subject. Just because that person was in chorus for 5 years doesn’t really mean anything. I was in chorus since I was in 7th grade and I’m a sophomore in college now for Music Education. Since 7th grade I thought I was an alto II and just last year after I was taught proper singing techniques I learned that I’m actually a Soprano I. You just have to learn proper stance and breathing just like thex13thxchild said. Do lots of warm ups in going both higher and lower. If you sing in just one place for a long time, chances are you won’t be able to get out of that area which is why you do both high and low warm ups. It stretches your range more and more.
