Can someone simplify this article for me?

You might be facing a power struggle in your immediate environment today that involves coworkers or family members. It may begin harmlessly enough, but by the time you realize what’s happening, someone has already made their move. As counterintuitive as it seems, relinquishing control now could benefit you in the long run. Don’t take on any battles that you cannot win.

It sounds to me like they are talking about letting someone else, be it a family member or a coworker, take control over a situation or a project. Say you are working on this big project for work and you and a coworker are are at odds, they are saying to let the other person take the lead on the project instead of insisting on taking the lead yourself. They are saying that you could be getting into a needless dispute with the other person by persisting.
