Should men really have a vote in abortion???

I was just wondering if the laws about abortion would be different if only women were allowed vote? I mean isnt the right to HAVE an abortion only relevent to women? I know that individual husbands/boyfriends should 100% get a say in whether their wife or girlfriened has one, but shouldnt women have the right to choose for themselves? I live in ireland where abortion is illegal but it is only illegal because of a vote where MOST of the voters were MEN. I personally would not have an abortion, but I think that women should have more say in the matter than men because men could never go through that? To me, the fact that its mostly men who voted it outlawed makes me angry. Its like having mostly women vote on what men should be allowed to do with their testicles… Just stupid. Why should you be allowed to vote on something the opposite sex does with their bodies? Ugh!!!

Answer #1

I think that women should choose altogether. No men involved, unless the’re discussing the pros and cons of abortion.

Answer #2

I think that to take the vote away from men is sexist and a sign of negative progression.

Answer #3

of couse men should have the vote , im irish too , and im glad its illegal here , but if a women im with gets pregnant thats my baby too what gives someone the right to kill it , if it was the man who carried the baby what would you think we need equal right for fathers and as far as im concerned those rights start when the women is pregnant

NO WAY! I got an abortion for the simple fact that I was crazy inlove with my boyfriend and its what he wanted so I just wanted to make him happy…I really did not want to, stupid of me for listening to his every word..BIGGEST regret ever…days after I got it he broke up with me…so my answer to this is NO

Answer #5

No, men shouldnt have a votein abortion as it is the womans choice, it’s her baby and she is the one that has to put up with being pregnant.

Answer #6

Men should have just as much say in it then any woman! The baby is just as much theirs as yours! Yeah it is more work for a women to carry the baby and have the pain of giving birth.. If you absolutly dont want a baby be smart and wear a rubber or get on birth control! there are many methods to prevent pregnancy! there is NO acceptable reason to have a abortion.. if it was up to me it would be illegal period! You are the one that choise to have sex!

Granted, it is the woman’s body in question, but that is not the actual issue with this kind of vote.

The vote is for whether or not a fetus has a right to life - the mother is not even a consideration, so, in that aspect, I think that men should have just as much right to vote.

They can determine whether they view abortion as murder or not. Again - about the fetus, not the mother.

You can start on with arguments about rape (a victim has the opportunity to take the plan B pill - no excuse there), too young (shouldn’t have been having sex in the first place), it was an “accident” (again - fixable if the woman takes measures)…the list goes on.

Now here’s something you probably didn’t think about - how many men out there do you think want to get stuck paying child support because their one-night stand resulted in a baby? I think there are more men voting for abortion than you realize.

Did you actually see the polls where it shows that more men than women voted against abortion? That would be interesting to see, considering the votes are anonymous, and therefore, genderless. Just because there may be more men than women, doesn’t mean they all voted against.

You can’t start an accusation until you have the proof that what you’re debating is true.

Oh and chaosity I dont think you understood my question really well.

And some people didnt choose to have sex. Rape victims? They should not be forced to carry the child of a strange evil man who they do not know, who raped them just because someine decided an unborn child has the right to live. Its not a “child” or “baby” its a fetus. And abortion should without a doubt be allowed when the fetus is in its embryonic state and is just a clump if cells that hasnt formed any body parts or anything of that sort yet.

Thanks for your answers :)

And yes the statistics I read in a newspaper were that 53% of voters were male.

I don’t really think that it should be about whether an unborn fetus has the right to live. It should be about women’s right to choose for themselves what to do. And men shouldn’t be allowed to choose what is right for women, I am aware that women also had a vote btw.

Also, some rape victims wouldnt know what to do after being raped, like that nine year old who was raped by her stepfather and impregnated with twins. She wouldnt have even fully understood what happened.

A fetus is a bunch of cells at first and I believe abortion should at least be okay until the 7th week.

Oh and with rape victims, if I was forced to carry a baby I was impregnated with against my will I’d probably end my own life. Nothing is more repulsive to me than knowing theres a fetus growing inside me that is the result of a disgusting evil rapists sperm joining with one of my own eggs. It makes me want to vomit.

And what would you think if you were a child of rape like oh yeah I came from a rapist, I have half the genes of a rapist, my mom didnt plan for or want me.

Sad really.
