Did she stop loving me because I was upset?

I’ve been with a pretty amazing girl for the past 5 months, and things have been going nicely until recently. My grandmother passed a few days ago, and the fact that I was crying when I called to tell her really seemed to turn her off. She didn’t speak much during that conversation, and maybe she was at a lack of words, but the most I got was “Uh..I don’t know what to say” followed by minutes of silence until I had finally sucked it up enough to make up an excuse to hang up. After that, I haven’t gotten any calls, and she only wants to go out on dates if I bring a certain friend along with us. This has happened once before, but it ended fine. I’m really beginning to think I somehow ruined our relationship because I was emotional over the death of a loved one. Does it sound like it’s over to you guys?

If it is over, then good riddance to her. Don’t you dare feel guilty or like you did anything wrong! It sounds like she reacted in a really awful way when you were going through a tough time. She does not sound like a good partner. A good partner is there to support you and lift you up in good or bad times. You should not be required to always put on a fake happy face for your partner. Your partner should make you feel better, never worse.

Don’t you worry about a thing. You sound like a great guy. If this is over, take it as a sign that she was not good enough for you. You deserve someone who is willing to stand by you.

Now, it’s possible that I am being too harsh on her. Maybe she is upset that you’re upset. Maybe she just does not know what to say to make you feel better. However, I am not really convinced at this point that that’s what the issue is.

I am sorry to hear about your grandmother.
