Does anyone know how sharks do the gas exchange and why they need to move constantly?
They need to move constantly because their gills do not automatically pump water/oxygen over them so they can’t breathe unless they’re swimming (which draws water/oxygen over their gills). On the other hand there are sharks, like nurse sharks and white tip reef sharks, that can rest on the bottom of the reef and not move because they can manually move their gills to pump water/oxygen over them.
not sure how they do their gas exchange, i always hated that part in marine biology… :p
