does he have a good chance going into college?

Hello, Uhm this has been bothering me for a very long time. Highschool right? Getting ready for college/university.. My question is, do they look at your grade 9, 10, 11 & 12 marks, or just grade 12? I have been hearing only grade 12. My boyfriend is in grade 11 and isn’t doing all that good. He says he has never done so bad. Stress plays a big role in this. I’m wondering, if he passes his classes with a 60 or higher, and does WAY better in grade 12 and might take an extra year, and does well in that year too, does he have a good chance going into college?

Thank you very much, all answers will be appreciated.

Most colleges focus (or so I’ve heard) on the junior year of high school. Since 12th grade is usually in progress during the application/acceptance process, it doesn’t really affect your chances. Colleges base acceptance on GPA, SAT/ACT scores, community/extra-curricular involvement, class rank, etc.

Colleges tend to look at GPAs, which is affected by 9th-12th grades.
But nobody’s perfect, many colleges are quite forgiving, especially if a year of poor grades was caused by outside stress. In fact, such stories make for good “overcoming failure” tragedies, which college admissions people and corporate recruiters seem to love…
