How can I get the salon look for my hair?

I’m african american, and i don’t know how to get my hair to look its best. I want a salon look for my hair. I’m using salon products, such as shampoo and conditioner, but my hair still comes out wrong. I don’t know what to do next after I shampoo and condition my hair. I can’t afford to visit salons, so I rather do it myself, please help! I need answers from people who know all hair types, or who is african american such as myself. Thanks so kindly.

My wife had a similar problem (though she’s not african american). What she found was that even if it’s a salon quality product, for your specific hair type, it might not work as well as another product that matches your chemical make up. So, my advice would be to test different products to see which one works the best for you.

I think over the last 5 years or so, I’ve seen her try at least a dozen different shampoos & conditioners before finally settling on one (though its’ been six months…we’ll see if it changes again, however, the one she uses now has been MUCH better than the other ones).
