Is it safe to drink wine while on anti-depressant pills?

With most medications, alcohol is something you definitely should not consume, but if you just ask your doctor or pharmacist I’m sure they’ll tell you yes or no. (:

if you’re depressed, alcohol is the LAST thing you should be drinking. alcohol is a depressant and will be detrimental to you even receiving treatment.

The pills come with a manual. Read that. There should be some words on “reciprocation with other substances”. It will tell probably you not to.

There are different families of antidepressants. MAO’s can have serious life-threatening reactions with alcohol. MAO’s are rarely used today. Most antidepressants tend to sedate and alcohol can intensify this effect. Patients taking stimulating antidepressants can usually drink moderately (1 alcoholic beverage for women, 1 or 2 for men) but a few have problems so proceed with caution until you know how you will react to this. You definitely should not be getting drunk while on any psychiatric medication. Drinking a whole bottle of wine is definitely a bad idea.

I take anti-deppressant pills and I drink. I think depending on how much you drink and what exactly you drink. Plus some meds are stronger then other. I would just call up your pharmacy. With a lot of medications as it says drinking will make you more drowsy.
