What is a safe age for an infant to be taken to a public place like mall?

I had this argument with my cousin since she insisted on taking her 28 days old infant to go shopping. I thought there is no good point at all for such young baby to be taken to be taken to a mall. On the other hand, plenty of viruses that might harm the baby. Her husband agreed with me, but well it is her baby, I know.

ive actually seen people take their newborns out with them, im not exactly sure on what is a safe age, you could probably take them out at any age but i would think at least 1 year old would be relativley safe

Answer #2

By the time you’re infant has had their standard shots, I’d say.

Answer #3

i would take my son to the mall when he was like 3weeks and hes perfecly healthy

Answer #4

I’ve seen people take their children out only a few days after giving birth to them. I personally don’t find it that wise, though. Not only is it noisy there, but the mall is full of sick people most of the time. An infant’s immune system definitely isn’t equipped for that kind of exposure.

If it were me, I’d wait a few months at the , VERY least.

Answer #5

I would wait at least 6 months. There immune systems are so weak it would be a bad idea. And most people coo over new babies, so you could have strangers cooing over your baby and be sick and they may not even know they are sick

Answer #6

Depends on whether the baby is healthy. And on what place you are going to. I wouldn’t take a baby to a loud, overcrowded place like an amusement park or a party. I wouldn’t take a baby to any place where people smoke cigarettes. But a normal shopping center? Why not? Unless, of course there are multiple cases of swine flu or any other epidemic in your town. But then, no one should go out unless they absolutely have to…

Babies who get breastfeeding in the first week after birth tend to have way better immune systems than babies who get artificial food. (They get mommys immune system) And a healthy baby doesn’t generally need sterile environments.

Answer #7

Ridiculous. Keeping an infant protected against all the elements only works to weaken its immune system. If you want your baby to develop a strong immunity to viruses, you need to allow some exposure. Keep in mind, that the baby still has some of mother’s antibodies in its system, so it’s fairly well protected. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with bringing a newborn out into the public…if you ask me, you’re doing more harm by trying to keep your baby in a bubble for the first part of its life.

Answer #8

Wait no less tha 3 months before being surounded by so many different bacteria carrying folks in one place. I would say 28 days is just too early.

Answer #9

Yes but with medicine today we can easily take care of a sick child. And the early years is when a child can become immune to certain sickness because of exposure.

Answer #10

Not really protect them in the bubble. We take him to the near park, have a morning walk around the block and welcome the sun shines every morning in our veranda. I have seen these mothers having their babies in their arms but busy with choosing the clothes they want to buy. In that point a mother could keep her eyes on the clothes and another person may come out of nowhere that bump to both of them. In addition, as far as I know, it is very easy for babies under 6 months old to catch a cold/flu while giving medication is to infant is not as easy as to baby above 1 year old.

Answer #11

I don’t think I am being ridiculous in this case.
