Is Sadomasochism an illness?

I’m a sadist in a non dangerous way, and I’ve known this for a while without really thinking about it. Since I’ve been like this for as long as I can remember. But when ever I try to get intimate with someone they call me a freak, and ask me to stop. I don’t know why I’m asking this really, but I guess I need some answers. So yeah, am I sick? Do I need help?

Answer #1

No……..Its a belief

Answer #2

No you aren’t sick. According to the work of Sigmund Freud he spoke about Sadism and Masochism in his ‘Drei Abhandlungen zur Sexualtheorie’ meaning three papers on sexual Theory, said Sadomasochism ‘stemmed from a psychological development from early childhood.’ That is if you want to believe the work of his or not.

Answer #3

no, it’s not a belief..

Answer #4

Thank you! God, what a relief :)

Answer #5

No it’s no an illness, it’s just something some people are into, don’t stress, you’re not a freak

Answer #6

It is a fetish. The DSM IV no longer lists sadomasochism as a disorder unless one is compelled to force it on a non-consenting partner. As I understand it masochism is far more common than sadism so finding a suitable partner to enjoy your fetish should not be difficult.
