Can the police stop someone who ran away if they leave a note?

It depends on how old the person is, and if they have their parents’ permission.

In Texas, a girl can legally leave home without her parents’ permission at 17 years old; it’s different in different locations.

Stay out of it. If she doesn’t want to live at home, have her talk with someone who can help her.

Plus, and I may be wrong, I think you can get into trouble too. For harboring a runaway.

unfortanatly they can i already tried so i figured something out..just leave w/out parents knwing…i still have to find a place and save up some money so its not easy but it wil be worth it and good luck!!

Dear katie_ere, Yes, the police can be called and they can bring her back home. I know you want to be a good friend but you will be putting yourself and your family in a middle of a bad situation. If things are so bad at home she needs to go to Children’s Services and explain it to them. Sometimes following rules seems like a prison sentence but we all have to follow rules either at home, school, work etc. Just because we don’t like them doesn’t mean we don’t have a responsibility to follow them. If she is being abused then by all means have her come to your home then you call the police and children’s services. If she is abused and stays with you and you don’t call these places you can be in for a huge fine and more trouble than you started with. Sue…good luck
