Who can remember distinct time periods in their past?

Memory is a strange thing. Experts say that our memory is like a collage. Instead of remembering a whole event we remember bits and pieces then reassemble them by filling in the gaps with our knowledge and experience. This is why when 10 people witness a crime all 10 stories differ; different people remember different parts and fill in the rest.

Most people do have a few memories that stand out for whatever reason. I know I remember lots of things my brothers don’t recall at all and they remember things that I have no recollection of. There are a few things I can pinpoint when I learned them but for the most part I can’t.

Certain events yes. I do feel as if smell holds a lot more memory though. You smell a certain fragrance your mind automatically remembers the time you smelled it before. Mines corn fields, really distinct smell, but it reminds me of the years before, makes me nostalgic and kinda sad actually lol.

I’m seventeen and can’t Mach memories with ages sure i remember my brother getting caught painting on a phone booth and having to clean it off but i can’t say how old i was when it happened.

Well from grade school its easier for me to remember “that was 6th grade” or something because of their being a different teacher every year. High school it became harder because I would see 6 or 7 different teachers a day so that kinda stopped working. Now that I’m done with school its really hard to remember even if that was 2 months ago or 3, it all starting to blur together :P.
